Tractor Mounted Row Crop Spray System

GreenTech's Tractor Mounted Row Crop System axial-fan technology makes large area spraying extremely economical.

Located south-west of Townsville in the rich and fertile Burdekin River valley is Rapisarda Farms, one of Australia’s largest melon growing farms. The family owned business began growing melons some 30 years ago and is managed by Sib Rapisarda. Today Rapisarda Farms has several hundred hectares of both melons and pumpkins.

As one of the largest growers in Australia, Sib recognised that pest and disease management had become a vital part of being able to deliver the level of quality that consumers demanded.

With the operating size of Rapisarda Farms, Sib also recognised that there was a need to increase their efficiency in terms of having better and more accurate spray coverage with minimal spray drift to increase their revenue, combined with the ability to reduce the time taken to spray, and the costs associated with power and diesel fuel consumption.

In 2014 Rapisarda Farms acquired a self-propelled Nitro N2XP tractor from Miller, based in Wisconsin in the United States, and simultaneously commissioned GreenTech to custom design and build a spray technology to work with their Nitro tractor.

Rapisarda Farms’ brief to GreenTech was simple – to build a spray solution that would increase their production (and revenue) while reducing their operating expenditure.

Using GreenTech’s directed air axial-fan technology that has the ability to spray large areas economically, GreenTech developed a cable boom sprayer that passed a 32 metre span in one operation and thus allowed Rapisarda Farms to protect their crops in a vastly reduced timeframe while ensuring outstanding targeting and coverage of water chemical mixture.

GreenTech’s spray head technology also solved another problem says Rapisarda’s Equipment Manager, Craig Raitelli, which was eliminating the risk of potential hydraulic oil contamination on the crop, a problem associated with some other providers of spray technologies.

Craig has monitored the GreenTech technology for some time now and is surprised how little power the alternator and electrical motors consume, thus saving a lot of money in operation.

This spray solution developed by GreenTech allows for very low power consumption, which in turn reduces the fuel costs associated with operating a tractor over a large terrain. The electrical spray head technology eliminates any possible contamination ensuring the highest possible crop yield.

The spray head solution developed by GreenTech is renowned in both the horticulture and agriculture industries for its simplicity and reliability. Tested by SARDI/CSIRO, the efficient use of an industrial electrical motor underpins the proven performance and reliability of the system in the field. It is this innovative technology that has kept GreenTech as the provider of choice for those serious about both crop protection and reducing their operational costs.

GreenTech’s spray head technology also solved another problem, which was eliminating the risk of potential hydraulic oil contamination on the crop, a problem associated with some other providers of spray technologies. Further, both parties Craig has monitored the GreenTech technology for some time now and is surprised how little power the alternator and electrical motors consume, thus saving a lot of money in operation.
